Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17, and lasts until Easter, April 4. Lent is the 40-day season of the church year that leads to Easter, and we remember Jesus spending 40 days in the wilderness. (Matthew 4:1-11) Together, we will spend these 40-days preparing ourselves to share in the resurrection of Christ. To share in Christ’s resurrection, we must also prepare ourselves to share in Christ’s crucifixion. In order for us to make that preparation, we will talk together these Sunday mornings about giving, about self-sacrifice. In our Sunday school time on Sunday mornings, we will engage in various service projects as a part of that giving. Lent is that time that we hear friends and co-workers vow to give up various things as an expression of self-sacirifce and self-discipline. Somebody will give up chocolate. Another will give up caffeine. Still somebody else will give up cookies, or beer. What if we gave up Facebook? Or Wii? We are familiar with the concept of giving “up” something. Here at FaithBridge Church, we are going to expand that some. What would you give up? What would you give away? What would you give for? What would you give to?
